Ride the Wineries. No Sweat.

Premium electric bikes, a scenic shuttle, and eight cellar doors waiting at the other end. This is the easiest way to explore Queenstown's wine country.

E-Bike Hire in Queenstown with Whizzy

Looking for e-bike hire in Queenstown? You've found it. Whizzy runs premium electric bikes on the Gibbston Valley winery trail -- the most scenic cycling route in the region and the only one that ends at a cellar door. Actually, it ends at eight of them.

This isn't a sweaty slog up a mountain. The e-bike does the hard work. You pedal gently, enjoy the views, and stop for Pinot Noir whenever you feel like it. Our shuttle drops you at the top of the trail in Gibbston, and you ride a gentle downhill gradient all the way back through the Kawarau Gorge to the Queenstown Trail network. Along the way, you pass through the heart of Central Otago's most concentrated wine sub-region.

What's Included in Your E-Bike Hire

Every Whizzy booking comes with everything you need for a full day out. No hidden extras, no gear to source separately.

  • Premium e-bike -- quality electric bikes with plenty of battery range for the full trail plus winery detours
  • Helmet -- required by NZ law, provided by us
  • Shuttle to the trailhead -- we drive you up to Gibbston so you ride the fun direction (downhill)
  • Trail maps and winery guide -- so you know exactly where to turn off for each cellar door
  • Pannier bag -- for the wine bottles you'll inevitably buy
  • Phone support -- if you need anything during your ride, we're a call away

All of that for $129 per person. No deposit. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

The Rides

Gibbston Valley Winery Ride -- Available Now

Our flagship ride. The shuttle takes you from Queenstown to the Gibbston Valley trailhead, passing through Arrowtown along the way. From there, you cycle the dedicated trail through wine country, stopping at whichever cellar doors catch your eye. Gibbston Valley Winery, Peregrine, Kinross, Chard Farm -- they're all on the route. Most people visit three to five wineries and spend four to six hours on the trail. You set the pace.

The trail follows the Kawarau River gorge on a sealed, mostly flat path. The e-bike assist means you barely notice the few gentle climbs. Fitness level? Irrelevant. If you can ride a bike at all, you can do this ride.

Gold Tunnel Ride -- Coming Soon

A heritage trail through the old gold mining routes of the Kawarau Gorge. We're finalising the route now. Watch this space.

Tree Plant Ride -- Coming Soon

Combine your e-bike ride with planting native trees in the Wakatipu Basin. Adventure meets conservation. Details coming shortly.

How It Works

We've stripped out the faff. Here's the full process, start to finish.

  1. Book online. Pick your date, choose how many riders, done. Takes two minutes.
  2. Meet us in Queenstown. We'll confirm the exact meeting point when you book. Morning departure gets you the most winery time.
  3. Shuttle up. We drive you and the bikes to the Gibbston Valley trailhead. About 30 minutes, great scenery.
  4. Ride and taste. Follow the trail, stop at wineries, take your time. The e-bike makes it effortless.
  5. Drop the bike. When you reach the end of the trail, leave the bike at our collection point. We handle the rest.

No return shuttle to catch. No strict timetable. You ride at your own pace and finish when you're ready.

Who Is This For?

Everyone. Seriously. We've had solo travellers, couples, hens parties of twenty, families with teenagers, and retired couples who haven't been on a bike in decades. The e-bike is the great equaliser -- it doesn't matter if you're fit or not, fast or slow. Everyone ends up at the same wineries with the same grin on their face.

If you're visiting Queenstown and want something more memorable than another jet boat ride, this is it. Wine, bikes, mountains, no stress. That's the pitch.
